Introduction

The Soybean Special Efforts Program (UPSUS) is a government initiative aimed at increasing the production and income of soybean farmers in Indonesia. Sumberejo Village, Pagar Merbau District, Deli Serdang Regency, is one of the regions that has directly benefited from this program. This study aims to analyze the impact of the UPSUS program on the production and revenue of soybean farmers in the village.

Background

Soybean is one of the most important crops in Indonesia, and its production has been increasing over the years. However, the country still relies heavily on imports to meet its soybean demands. The government has implemented various programs to increase soybean production and reduce imports. The UPSUS program is one of these initiatives, which provides assistance to soybean farmers in the form of high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides.

Methodology

This study was conducted using the purposive sampling method to determine the study area, while the sampling of farmers was carried out by the proportional random sampling method. A total of 42 farmers from 8 farmer groups who participated in the soybean upsus program became respondents in this study. Data were analyzed using the production and income formula and testing the average difference in paired samples using the SPSS application.

Results

The results of this study showed that the soybean upsus program provided significant assistance to farmers in the form of high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. Data analysis revealed significant differences in soybean production before and after the upsus program was applied. Similarly, there was a significant increase in revenue to soybean farmers after they followed this program.

The success of the soybean UPSUS program in Sumberejo Village indicates that this program can be a catalyst for increasing the production and income of soybean farmers. Some key factors that contribute to the success of this program include:

This study has some limitations that should be noted. Firstly, the study was conducted in a single village, which may not be representative of other villages in the region. Secondly, the study only focused on the impact of the UPSUS program on soybean production and revenue, and did not consider other factors that may affect farmers' welfare.
