Analysis of Interpersonal Communication Application of Bridal Candidate Course in Management of Marriage Relations Messages in the Office of Religious Affairs Medan City
Introduction
Marriage is a sacred bond that requires a strong foundation to face various challenges. One of the efforts to prepare is to take the bride and groom courses (Suscatin). This study examined how the interpersonal communication of a married couple in applying the knowledge gained in Suscatin and their strategy in managing marriage messages when facing conflict.
Background of the Study
Marriage is a complex institution that involves two individuals with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Effective communication is crucial in building a strong and healthy marriage. The bride and groom courses (Suscatin) are designed to prepare couples for the challenges of marriage by teaching them essential skills such as communication, conflict resolution, and relationship management.
Methodology
This research was conducted at the Medan City Religious Affairs Office (KUA) using a qualitative approach and case study design. Four married couples who have participated in Suscatin were chosen as informants through purposive sampling techniques. Data is collected through in-depth interviews and observations.
Results
The results showed that the four informant couples carried out the rights and obligations of husband and wife as a form of application of knowledge gained in Suscatin. Three of the four couples have effective interpersonal communication, seen from openness, empathy, support, equality, positive attitudes, sincerity, and patient. The four couples are also quite successful in managing communication messages by applying the principles of open, face to face, empathy, equality, and mutual support.
Communication Barriers
However, research also revealed several communication barriers faced by couples. Process barriers occur when couples do not understand what is in each other's minds, so the message is not conveyed appropriately. Lack of listening ability is also an obstacle, causing the message received is not conveyed properly.
Psychological barriers arise because of differences in experience, communication styles, perspectives, excessive assumptions, and emotional pressure from outside. Semantic barriers occur due to ambiguous language and wrong pronunciation.
Efforts to Overcome Communication Barriers
To overcome these obstacles, couples apply various efforts such as building interaction, choosing the right time, equating perception, giving awards or punishment, direct communication, and discussing with trusted people to get the right information.
Conflict Resolution Strategy
The conflict resolution strategy used by the four informant pairs is divided into three: arguments, avoidance of conflict, and actively dealing with conflict as it is.
Conclusion
This research provides a deep understanding of interpersonal communication in the context of marriage. The results show that Suscatin has an important role in building a healthy and effective foundation of communication in the household.
Implications of the Study
For the bride and groom, the results of this study can be a guide to prepare themselves to face the dynamics of communication in marriage. Good communication skills are the key to building harmonious relationships and resolving conflicts wisely.
Recommendations
Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:
The Suscatin program should be continued and expanded to reach more couples.
The program should include more modules on communication, conflict resolution, and relationship management.
Couples should be encouraged to participate in the program and to apply the knowledge gained in their daily lives.

This study has several limitations. The sample size is small, and the study was conducted in a specific context. Future studies should aim to increase the sample size and to conduct the study in different contexts.
