Isolation and Identification of Phenolic Compounds from the Leaves of the Plant Distance Plant (Ricinus communis L.)

Introduction

The purification process was continued using the preparative thin layer chromatography technique, which produced 12 mg of brown-yellow amorphous solids with an RF value of 0.56 in eluent chloroform and ethyl acetate (70:30, V/V).

Characterization of Compounds

The characterization of the compounds obtained was carried out through the analysis of UV-Vis, FT-IR, and NMR spectrum analysis. The UV-Vis spectrum showed the maximum wavelength (λ max) at 282 Nm with an adsorbanic value of 0.880, indicating the presence of compounds that have absorbent characteristics in the UV region.

FT-IR analysis revealed important functional groups such as OH, C-H SP2 of Aromatic Proton, C-H SP3 from OCH3, as well as the C = O Esther and C = C = C = C = C = C = C = C-O, which indicates the presence of chemical bonds in isolated compounds.

From the magnetic resonance analysis of the proton core (1H-NMR), identified protons H-2 and H-6 contained in the aromatic ring of phenolic compounds, as well as protons from the metox group (-OCH3). Based on the data obtained, this isolation compound is thought to be a phenolic phenolic compound of phenolic acid, namely methyl error.
