Introduction

This study discusses the design of a microstrip antenna with 2 rectangular patch elements equipped with DGS in the form of rectangles, with the aim of improving its performance in the frequency range of 3.3 GHz - 3.4 GHz with a middle frequency of 3.35 GHz.

Design of Microstrip Antenna with DGS

The designed microstrip antenna consists of two patch elements arranged in parallel on the substrate. The addition of DGS is expected to increase the value of VSWR and return loss, increase gains, and suppress the mutual coupling effect between antenna elements. The design process is carried out using the 2004 Microwave AWR Simulator.

Simulation Results

The simulation results show that the use of DGS sized (26x26) mm placed in the Y-4 mm position produces a significant increase in the performance of the antenna. The VSWR value was successfully repaired to 1,096, and return loss reached -26.8 dB, while the antenna without DGS had a VSWR value of 1,371 and return loss -16.12 dB.
