Introduction

This study employed a quantitative descriptive approach to investigate the relationship between work characteristics and job satisfaction among nurses graduated from D-3 at Santa Elisabet Hospital in Medan. A total of 94 nurses participated in the study, with data collected through interviews and questionnaires. The study used a Likert scale to measure the variables, with a focus on the following work characteristics:

Diversity of skills: The ability to use various skills in daily work increases satisfaction.
Task identity: When nurses feel they have a clear and well-defined task, they are more likely to feel connected to the results of their work.
Significance of task: Tasks that have meaning and concrete impacts on the health of patients often improve the sense of achievement and job satisfaction.
Autonomy: Nurses given the freedom to make decisions in their work often feel more satisfied and committed.
Job feedback: Getting positive feedback can increase job motivation and satisfaction.

Results

The results of the analysis using SPSS version 12.00 showed that the R Square value was 0.478, indicating that 47.8% of job satisfaction variations can be explained by work characteristics. The F test revealed that overall, work characteristics have a significant influence on nurse job satisfaction. The T test showed that autonomy is the most dominant variable affecting job satisfaction, while task identity did not show a significant effect.
