Introduction

The problem of HIV/AIDS is a serious challenge in the field of health that receives global attention due to its impact on the quality of human resources. One important step in early detection is through an HIV test, which unfortunately still has a low scope at the Padang Bulan Puskesmas Medan City, with only 22.3% participation. This study aims to explore the influence of sociodemography, knowledge, attitudes of pregnant women, and husband's support for the participation of pregnant women in the HIV test at the Puskesmas.

A total of 130 respondents were selected for the study, divided into 65 respondents in the case group and 65 in the control group. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis, bivariate through the chi-square test, as well as multivariate analysis with multiple logistics regression.

The results of the multivariate analysis showed that the attitude of pregnant women (Odds Ratio (OR): 3,272; 95% Confidence Interval (CI) = 1,506-7,111) and husband's support (OR: 4,854; 95% CI = 2,085-11,299) had a significant influence against participation in the HIV test. Conversely, other factors such as age, education, work of pregnant women, husband's work, parity, number of antenatal care (ANC) visits, and knowledge about HIV did not show significant influence.

The results of this study indicate that the positive attitude of pregnant women towards HIV tests, as well as strong support from her husband, is very instrumental in increasing participation in HIV tests. This attitude may be rooted in a good understanding of the importance of HIV tests for personal health and babies being conceived. Conversely, the lack of husband's support can create fear and stigma that makes pregnant women reluctant to do the test.

It is essential for health workers to develop programs that facilitate communication between husband and wife regarding the importance of HIV tests. By involving community leaders and religious leaders in the socialization of HIV/AIDS, can help reduce existing stigma. In dealing with HIV/AIDS problems, good understanding and support from the surrounding environment, especially from the husband, is very important to increase participation in HIV tests. Therefore, joint efforts are needed from various parties to educate the public about HIV risk and the importance of early detection through HIV tests, in order to prevent new cases and improve the quality of the health of pregnant women and children.
