In this context, soil stabilization is an important step to improve the properties of soil engineering, especially in clay soils that tend to have weaknesses. This study focuses on the use of carbonate lime as an additional material for the stabilization of clay soil, with the main objective to determine the value of the property index, atterberg value, standard density value, California bearing ratio (CBR) value, and the results of free compression tests, UCT.

Clay soils are one of the most common types of soils found in many parts of the world, but they tend to have weaknesses such as low strength, high compressibility, and low bearing capacity. In this study, the soil used has a classification based on AASHTO as A-7-6 (9) and based on USCS as CL (Clay-Low Plasticity). Original soil samples show water content of 34.43%, specific weight 2.65%, liquid limit 47.33%, plastic limit 17.45%, and plasticity index of 29.88%. The test results show that the Non-submerged Laboratory CBR value in the original soil is 6.29%, while the UCT value in the original soil reaches 1.42 kg/cm².

The use of carbonate lime in certain variations shows a significant increase in the CBR value and UCT value. The CBR value for 12% carbonate lime variation reaches 11.46%, indicating an increase in the carrying capacity of the soil. In addition, the UCT value in the same variation also increased to 3.12 kg/cm². From this analysis, it can be concluded that the stabilization of clay soil using carbonate lime is very effective in improving the physical properties of the soil. Increasing the value of CBR and UCT in 12% carbonate lime variation shows that this material is not only able to increase soil strength, but also improve the technical characteristics of the soil that did not meet the requirements.
