Introduction

Effective communication is a crucial aspect of any healthcare practice, including dentistry. The way a dentist communicates with patients can significantly impact their satisfaction and overall experience. In this study, we examine the effect of therapeutic communication on patient satisfaction in the practice of Dentist Zeri Winda Ayu Medan City. Our purpose is to determine whether there is a significant effect of therapeutic communication on patient satisfaction and to what extent.

Background

Therapeutic communication is a type of communication that involves empathy, active listening, and clear explanation. It is essential in building trust and understanding between healthcare providers and patients. In dentistry, therapeutic communication can help patients feel more comfortable and relaxed during procedures, leading to increased satisfaction and better outcomes. The S-O-R (stimulus organism response) theory, communication accommodation theory, theory of therapeutic communication, and patient satisfaction theory are used to understand the relationship between therapeutic communication and patient satisfaction.

Methodology

This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The population consists of all patients visiting the practice of Dentist Zeri Winda Ayu, Medan City, from October to December 2021, totaling 445 people. The research sample was determined using the Yamane Taro Formula, producing 82 respondents. Sampling techniques used simple random sampling techniques. Data collection techniques involved a questionnaire with 36 valid questions. Data analysis techniques included single table analysis, cross table analysis, correlation test, and determination test.

Results

The results of the hypothesis test using SPSS software show that the significance value is above 95% (sig. 2-tailed) = 0.000 with a correlation coefficient of 0.780. These results indicate that the hypothesis is accepted, which is a significant influence of therapeutic communication on patient satisfaction in the practice of Dentist Zeri Winda Ayu, Medan City. In addition, the determination test results show that therapeutic communication has an influence of 60% on patient satisfaction in the practice.

Further Analysis

The results of this study indicate that therapeutic communication has a strong influence on patient satisfaction in the practice of Dentist Zeri Winda Ayu. This shows the importance of therapeutic communication in building positive and professional relationships between dentists and patients. Effective therapeutic communication can help dentists to:

The results of this study can be beneficial for the practice of Dentist Zeri Winda Ayu to improve the quality of service and patient satisfaction. By implementing effective therapeutic communication, dentist practice can build positive and professional relationships with patients, thereby increasing the image and trust of the public towards these practices.

Limitation

This study has some limitations. The sample size is relatively small, and the study was conducted in a single practice. Future studies should aim to increase the sample size and conduct the study in multiple practices to generalize the findings.
