Introduction

In this study, we investigated the potential of using Dutch teak powder and bentonite as ceramic materials. The solid phase reaction method was employed to produce ceramic materials based on these two natural resources. The aim of this study was to evaluate the properties and characteristics of the ceramic materials produced using Dutch teak powder and bentonite.

Materials and Methods

The sample making process involved mixing Dutch teak powder and bentonite at a specific ratio, followed by stirring for 30 minutes at a speed of 500 rpm using a ball grinding technique. The mixture was then heated to 1000 ℃ to initiate the solid phase reaction. The density of the produced material was analyzed using a density analyzer, which revealed values of 2.20 gr/cm³, 2.32 gr/cm³, and 2.33 gr/cm³. Further characterization was carried out using Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), and Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) methods.

Results and Discussion

The XRD analysis revealed that the crystal structure formed was hexagonal, with atomic crystal diameters of 4.50 nm, 3.88 Nm, and 3.05 Nm. The SEM-EDX analysis showed that the sample morphology was not homogeneous, with agglomeration observed. The average particle size obtained was 313.81 Nm, 372.25 Nm, and 361.63 Nm. The main compositions identified in the spectrum were carbon (C), oxygen (O), silicone (SI), and iron (Fe). The sample with a density of 2.33 g/cm³ showed a good balance between weight and percentage of atoms.

The DTA results showed a decrease in peaks in the temperature range of 95.05 ℃ to 427.54 ℃, and endothermic peaks at 427.54 ℃ with a mass loss of 9.14 mg. Furthermore, the temperature increased to 534.29 ℃ with an additional mass loss of 4.34 mg, indicating that this mass loss depended on the effect of temperature.
