Introduction

The Rokan Hulu area in Riau Province is known for its rich natural beauty, with various tourist destinations that have high potential for development. One of the regions that have been identified as having great potential is the natural tourism of the Hapanasan hot spring. Despite its natural beauty, the management of resources in this region by the community and the government has not fully supported the development of these tourism objects. Therefore, innovation in the development of natural tourism areas is very necessary.

Background of the Study

The Hapanasan hot spring is a natural tourist destination that has been visited by many tourists. However, the development of this area has been hindered by the lack of proper management and infrastructure. The community and the government have not fully supported the development of this area, resulting in a lack of facilities and infrastructure that can support the growth of tourism. This has led to a decline in the number of tourists visiting the area, which has had a negative impact on the local economy.

Purpose of the Study

The purpose of this study is to analyze the diversity of butterflies in the Hapanasan Hot Springs, as well as to evaluate the potential of butterfly-based tourism in the region. This study also aims to determine the priority of butterfly-based tourism development, as well as formulating its development strategies. The methodology used in data collection includes exploration and direct observations, including visual surveys to collect butterfly diversity data. In addition, interviews with experts, document studies, and focus group discussions were also carried out by involving nine informants from various agencies, including the Office of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports in Rokan Hulu Regency and non-governmental institutions.

Methodology

The methodology used in this study includes:

Exploration and Direct Observations: This method was used to collect data on the diversity of butterflies in the Hapanasan Hot Springs. The researcher conducted visual surveys to collect data on the types of butterflies present in the area.
Interviews with Experts: The researcher conducted interviews with experts from various agencies, including the Office of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports in Rokan Hulu Regency and non-governmental institutions. The interviews were used to gather information on the potential of butterfly-based tourism in the region.
Document Studies: The researcher conducted document studies to gather information on the existing infrastructure and facilities in the Hapanasan Hot Springs area.
Focus Group Discussions: The researcher conducted focus group discussions with nine informants from various agencies, including the Office of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports in Rokan Hulu Regency and non-governmental institutions. The focus group discussions were used to gather information on the potential of butterfly-based tourism in the region.

Results

The results of the analysis show that the Hapanasan Hot Spring Tourism Area has a high diversity index, with index values ranging from 3.13 to 3.91, as well as uniform index which is classified as almost the same, with a value between 0.77 to 0.95. From the analysis of butterfly-based tourism potential, it was revealed that this area has a worthy value to be developed with a percentage of 80.5%. In addition, the method of hierarchical analysis shows that development priorities focus on aspects of tourism objects and potential attraction, in which sub-criteria includes improvement of facilities and infrastructure.

SWOT Analysis

Through SWOT analysis, it was found that this area is in quadrant 1, which shows that there are many strengths and opportunities that can be utilized for further development. The strengths of the area include its natural beauty, diversity of butterflies, and potential for development. The opportunities include the potential for tourism development, economic growth, and job creation. The weaknesses of the area include the lack of infrastructure and facilities, while the threats include competition from other tourist destinations.

Conclusion

Development of butterfly-based nature tourism in the hot water area of Hapanasan Rokan Hulu Regency Riau has a significant potential. With the right approach, including strengthening infrastructure and facilities, this area can be a superior tourist destination that attracts both local and foreign tourists. The diversity of existing butterflies can be a special attraction, supports local ecosystems, and provide economic benefits for the surrounding community. Through collaboration between the government, the community, and the private sector, this tourist area can be developed into one of the sustainable tourist destinations and provides added value for all parties.
