Introduction

In the poultry industry, the production of eggs is a crucial aspect of the business, and farmers are constantly seeking ways to improve egg production and quality. Background

A study was conducted in the livestock biology laboratory majoring in Animal Agriculture, University of North Sumatra from April to May 2002, to investigate the influence of various levels of fish meal in the ration on the production of free-range chicken eggs between 64 to 70 weeks. The study aimed to observe the effects of different levels of fish meal on ration consumption, egg production in grams, the percentage of egg production, and the conversion of rations in groceries.

Research Methodology

The study used a non-factorial complete random design (RAL) with five different treatments. The treatments were:

Ro: ration without fish meal
RI: ration with the use of 3% fish meal
R2: ration with the use of 6% fish meal
R3: ration with the use of 9% fish meal
R4: ration with the use of 12% fish meal

Each treatment was repeated 4 times, and each treatment unit consisted of 2 chickens. This strict design was used to get accurate and reliable data.

Results and Analysis

The results of the study showed that variations in the level of fish meal in the ration did not have a significant effect on ration consumption (in grams), egg production (in grams), the percentage of egg production (% hen day), and ration conversion. This raises questions about the efficiency of the use of fish meal as a source of protein in chicken feed.

From the analysis conducted, it can be understood that although fish meal is rich in essential amino acids and other nutrients, it turns out that in the range of levels tested, there is no striking difference that affects egg production. This may be caused by a number of factors, such as the quality of fish meal used, environmental conditions, or even genetic free-range chickens themselves.
