Methodology

This study was conducted in the Padang River Basin, with a survey approach. The researchers took water sampling at 3-5 points, starting from the source of liquid waste disposal before mixing with river flow. The sampling method used is the depth integration system, which focuses on the surface of the river water. Each sampling point is done three times to ensure data consistency. The parameters measured in this study include pH, total suspended solids (TSS), total dissolved solids (TDS), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and water flow velocity.

Results

The results showed that the average acidity level (pH) of waste from PT. Serasi Jaya and PT. Sumatra Tapioca Telaga in the Sibarau Sub-area is 4.6 and 4.3. In addition, the total solids suspended from the factory waste PT. Serasi Jaya, PT. Sumatra Telaga Tapioka, and PT. Deli Sari Murni Tapioka in the Sibarau and Padang Hilir sub-regions was recorded at 826.7 mg/L, 928.9 mg/L, and 763.4 mg/L. The highest chemical oxygen demand (COD) value is found in waste from PT. Sumatra Tapioca Telaga, which is 1122.2 mg/l. The highest water flow velocity is observed in the Padang Hilir sub-region, which is related to a decrease in acidity and total solids suspended from PT. Deli Sari Pure tapioca.

Discussion

The impact of industrial liquid waste, especially from the tapioca factory, cannot be ignored because it can change the quality of aquatic ecosystems. An imbalance of the pH level and increased suspended solids can reduce dissolved oxygen in water, which is very important for the survival of fish and other aquatic organisms.
