Differences in the Level of Harassment in High School Students: School Roots vs. School Programs without Roots Programs (In the Perspective of Victims)

Introduction

Harassment in schools is a significant concern that affects the well-being and academic performance of students. Bullying can take many forms, including physical, verbal, and cyberbullying, and can have severe consequences for the victims. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in understanding the factors that contribute to harassment in schools and developing effective strategies to prevent it. This study aims to explore the differences in the level of harassment among high school students in schools with and without roots programs. By involving 301 students as participants, this study aims to understand the experience of bullying from the perspective of the victim.

Methodology

This study used a comparative design to compare the level of harassment among high school students in schools with and without roots programs. The participants consisted of 301 students who were selected through a random sampling method. The data collection instrument used was a questionnaire that assessed the level of harassment experienced by the students. The questionnaire consisted of 20 items that measured the frequency and severity of physical and cyberbullying harassment. The data analysis was conducted using the Mann-Whitney test, which is a non-parametric test that is used to compare the median of two independent groups.

Results

The results of the study showed a significant difference in the level of harassment between students in schools with and without roots programs. The students in schools without roots programs showed a higher level of harassment, with their harassment category included in the high category. Conversely, the students in schools with roots programs tended to experience negotiations in the low category. The results also showed that the students in schools without roots programs had the highest average score in terms of physical and cyberbullying harassment. On the other hand, the students in schools with roots programs did not show the highest average score in certain types of harassment.

Discussion

The results of this study highlight the importance of roots programs in reducing harassment in schools.
