Introduction

The importance of mapping the status of nutrients such as Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K) on agricultural land cannot be overstated. These two nutrients play a vital role in the growth and development of rice plants, and their availability can significantly impact crop yields and productivity. In this study, we aim to provide an overview of the spread of these two nutrients in paddy fields in Percut Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency. The research was conducted between May and August 2019, involving the Geographic Information System Laboratory and the Medan Palm Oil Research Center laboratory.

Methodology

Soil sampling was carried out using the free grid survey method with a semi-detailed survey level, where every 25 hectares of land were taken one sample. The measured parameters included the phosphate content extracted using a 25% HCL and potassium extracted by the same method. In addition, a questionnaire was conducted on land management patterns by local farmers. The data obtained was then analyzed using the interpolation method to describe the distribution of nutrients in the paddy fields.

Results

The analysis shows that the spread of soil phosphorus is divided into three criteria: low, medium, and high. Phosphorus distribution on the land is 14% relatively low, 62% moderate, and 24% high. Meanwhile, the spread of potassium also shows a significant variation, where 4% are in the low category, 48% in the medium category, and 48% in the high category.
