Introduction

Agricultural credit plays a vital role in improving the welfare of farmers, particularly in the palm oil sector in Labuhan Batu Utara Regency. The government's efforts to enhance the welfare of rural communities have led to the establishment of planned and integrated credit systems. However, many farmers face constraints in increasing their yields due to a lack of capital, forcing them to seek loans from financial institutions, both formal and informal. In this context, the growth of credit in the agricultural sector has experienced a significant increase, which is part of the government's program to encourage rural economic development.

The Role of Agricultural Loans in Improving Farmers' Welfare

Agricultural loans play a crucial role in increasing productivity and, ultimately, farmers' income. As production results increase, farmers' income also rises, leading to improved welfare. The provision of agricultural loans enables farmers to invest in their businesses, acquire modern agricultural technology, and improve their management skills. This, in turn, enhances their ability to compete in the market and increases their income.

Methodology

This study involved 30 oil palm farmers in Labuhan Batu Utara Regency and employed a survey method by distributing questionnaires. The variables studied in this research include equity (X1), capital credit (X2), and land area (X3). Multiple linear regression analysis was used to identify the relationship between the use of agricultural loans and farmers' welfare.

Results and Discussion

The results of the analysis show that the application of agricultural loans in the area is satisfactory, although it has not been fully effective in managing oil palm agricultural businesses. At the 95% confidence level, the test value was obtained at 0.598 with a coefficient of determination. This indicates that the variable studied can explain the variation of farmers' income levels by 59.8%, while the remaining 40.2% is influenced by other variables not included in the estimated model.

It is essential to note that although agricultural loans have a positive impact, there are other factors that also contribute to the welfare of farmers. For instance, access to modern agricultural technology, management skills, and supporting market conditions. Therefore, a comprehensive and ongoing effort is needed from all parties, including the government, financial institutions, and the community itself, to create an ecosystem that supports the improvement of the welfare of oil palm farmers.

This research aims to provide insights into the impact of agricultural loans on the welfare of oil palm farmers in Labuhan Batu Utara Regency.
