Introduction

The tooth arch is a complex structure that is influenced by various factors, including the size of the crown, position, tooth inclination, and interaction with the lips, cheeks, and tongue. During orthodontic treatment, changes in the tooth arches often occur, and understanding these changes is crucial for effective treatment planning. This study aims to identify changes in the dimensions of dental arches in patients who experience non-extraction class I malocclusion at RSGM FKG USU.

This study uses a cross-sectional design involving 36 study models, consisting of 31 female models and 5 male models. The study model was taken from patients at the USU FKG PPDGs Ortodontic Clinic. Measurement of the length and width of the tooth arch is done before and after orthodontic treatment using the raberin method.

Results

The results showed that after the treatment of orthodontic, the length of the maxillary tooth arch (U31, U61, and U71) was recorded at 9.44 ± 0.98; 29.10 ± 2.50; and 45.22 ± 2.74. Whereas in the mandibular (L31, L61, and L71), the length is 5.88 ± 0.85; 25.65 ± 2.58; and 39.52 ± 6.75. For the width of the maxillary tooth arch (U33, U66, U77), the result after treatment is 35.48 ± 2.25; 53.89 ± 2,51; and 59.76 ± 3.08, while for Mandibula (L33, L66, and L77), the result respectively is 28.35 ± 3.00; 46.57 ± 2.75; and 54.26 ± 5.79.

Analysis and Explanation

From the data obtained, it can be concluded that there are no significant changes in the length of the tooth arches (U31, U61, and U71) and the width of the tooth arch (U33, U66, and U77) in the maxilla after undergoing the treatment of non-extracting orthodontics. On the other hand, significant changes only occur in the length of the mandibular tooth arches (L31 and L61), while for the length of L71 and width (L33, L66, and L77) did not show significant changes.
