The Relationship between NPK Status and Tomato Production in Karo Regency: A Study on Solanum Lycopersicum L.

Introduction

Tomato production is a crucial aspect of the agricultural industry, and understanding the factors that influence its growth and yield is essential for farmers and agricultural experts. In Karo Regency, the production of tomatoes is a significant contributor to the local economy, and the management of soil nutrients plays a vital role in determining the success of tomato cultivation. This study aims to investigate the relationship between NPK status and tomato production in Karo Regency, with a focus on the impact of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) on the growth and yield of Solanum Lycopersicum L.

Methodology

The research method used in this study was a survey, with samples taken from 30 tomato lands owned by farmers spread across 17 villages from 6 sub-districts in Karo Regency. Soil sampling was carried out using the zigzag method to ensure data representativeness. The observed variables included N-total (%), P-Available (PPM), and K-Exchange (ME/100G). Data regarding tomato production was obtained through interviews with farmers.

Results

The results of this study showed that most of the land used by farmers had a moderate nutrient status for nitrogen (N), very low for phosphorus (P), and low for potassium (K). However, multiple linear regression analysis performed showed that there was no significant effect of the independent variable (N, P, and K) on the dependent variable (tomato production). The Adjusted R Square value obtained was -0.051, which indicates that the regression model built cannot explain the variation of existing tomato production. The regression equation obtained was y = 42.167 - 8,494 (x1) + 0.051 (x2) + 2,919 (x3), where partially no significant effect was found between the three nutrient variables on tomato production.
