Characteristics of Acoustic Speech Declarative Mode of Javanese Language Speakers in Medan (Comparison with Acoustic Characteristics of Declarative Mode of Javanese Speaker in Solo)

Introduction

The Javanese language is one of the most widely spoken languages in Indonesia, with a rich cultural heritage and diverse regional dialects. Research on the acoustic characteristics of Javanese speech has been conducted to understand the sound patterns and pronunciation of the language. This study aims to compare the acoustic characteristics of declarative mode of Javanese speech between speakers in Medan and Solo, two major cities in Indonesia with distinct cultural and geographical contexts.

Research Methodology

The research methodology used in this study is a quantitative approach with an experimental design. The population studied consists of Javanese speakers who live in Medan and Solo. A nonprobability purposive sampling technique was used to select 40 participants as the sample size. The data collected includes recordings of speech from sentences with declarative mode, which include verdictive, exercise, commission, equal, and expositivity sentences. The data processing was carried out using the Paat program to measure the intensity, frequency, and duration of the speech. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS (Statistics Package for Social Scientist) and implementing Independent sample t-test to evaluate the significant differences between two groups of variables.

The results of the analysis showed several important points:

Speech Intensity

The average intensity of declarative mode speech spoken by speakers in Medan does not show significant differences compared to speakers in Solo. This may be caused by the influence of cultural factors and similar language habits in both regions.

Melodic Frequency and Structure

Unlike the intensity, the average frequency or melodic structure of speech from Medan speakers shows significant differences compared to solo speakers. This indicates variations in the way of pronunciation and emphasis on words that are influenced by accents and habits of each region.

Duration of the Sound of the Silabis

The average duration of the sound of the sound of the performance declarative mode of the field speakers also does not show a significant difference when compared to the speakers of Solo. This may indicate consistency in the speakers regulate the time of sentence pronunciation, although there are differences in the frequency aspect.

Analysis and Implications

Differences in acoustic characteristics of speech between speakers in Medan and Solo can provide insight into how language is influenced by social and geographical contexts. The average different frequency indicates that speakers in both regions may have their own way of expressing their emotions through speech, which is related to different cultural backgrounds.
