Introduction

In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, the use of electronic money (e-money) has become increasingly widespread in Indonesia. As the country continues to grow and develop, it is essential to understand the impact of e-money on the economy. This study aims to analyze the effect of e-money, money supply, inflation, and exchange rates on economic growth in Indonesia. Through a comprehensive analysis of monthly data from January 2009 to December 2018, this study collected 120 samples and utilized the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) with EViews 10 software to examine the relationships between these variables.

The use of e-money has been on the rise in Indonesia, driven by the increasing adoption of digital payment systems and the growing demand for convenient and secure payment methods. Results

The results of this study showed a significant relationship between the e-money variable, money supply, and exchange rates on economic growth in the long run. Specifically, the study found that e-money and money supply had positive and significant effects on economic growth, indicating that an increase in the use of e-money and money in circulation can encourage economic growth. On the other hand, inflation had a positive but not significant influence on economic growth, suggesting that although inflation can affect people's purchasing power, it is not strong enough to have a significant impact on Indonesia's economic growth. Conversely, the exchange rate had a negative and significant effect, indicating that fluctuations in exchange rates can cause economic uncertainty and have the potential to hamper investment.

Granger Causality Test

The granger causality test was conducted to examine the direction of causality between the variables. The results showed the absence of a two-way relationship between each research variable, indicating that although there is an influence between variables, no evidence was found that changes in one variable cause changes in other variables. This finding suggests that e-money as a payment instrument has different characteristics compared to other economic components such as money supply and inflation.

Implications

The findings of this study have important implications for policymakers in Indonesia. Encouraging the use of e-money and increasing the money supply can be an effective strategy for strengthening economic growth.
