Test the Performance of the Use of Chitosan CuO Zeolite as an Adsorbent to Reduce Levels of Iron Metals (Fe) and Lead (Pb)

Introduction

Heavy metal pollution has become a significant environmental concern worldwide, with iron metals (Fe) and lead (Pb) being among the most hazardous pollutants. Materials and Methods

The initial process involved the manufacture of cuo chitosan by dissolving commercial chitosan in a 1% acetic acid solution and mixing it with a Cu solution (NO3) 2 0.5 m with a ratio of 2: 1. The mixture was then dropped into a 2 M NaOH solution, producing a black gel. After being dried, this cuo chitosan was mixed with zeolite, then added 100 ml of distilled water and 50 ml of 1% acetic acid, stirred until evenly distributed and dried again.

Characterization of Cuo Chitosan

The cuo chitosan produced was analyzed to find out the functional group using the FTIR spectrophotometer. The results showed the presence of functional groups that are responsible for the adsorption of heavy metals.

Adsorption Studies

Quantitative tests were carried out to determine the levels of Fe and Pb metal before and after treatment using the atomic absorption spectrophotometry method, with specific wavelengths of 248.3 nm for Fe and 217 Nm of metal for Pb metal. The results showed that the adsorption process was capable of absorbing Fe metals by 73.98% and Pb metal by 58.05% at the optimum immersion for 30 minutes.
