Introduction

Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) are one of the most widely cultivated legumes in the world, providing a rich source of protein, fiber, and essential nutrients for human consumption. The growth and production of beans are influenced by various factors, including environmental conditions, soil quality, and plant growth regulators. Gibberellins, a class of plant growth regulators, play a crucial role in stimulating plant growth and development, particularly in the vegetative phase. This study aims to explore the effect of growth and production of beans in various concentrations of gibberellins and the duration of seed soaking.

Materials and Methods

The study was conducted in Hutaraja Village, Doloksanggul District, Humbang Hasudutan Regency, North Sumatra, at an altitude of about 1500 meters above sea level. The research took place from June to September 2020. A random design group (shelf) was used, including two factors and repeated three times. The first factor included gibberellin concentration, namely 0 ppm, 10 ppm, 20 ppm, and 30 ppm. The second factor was the length of seed soaking, which was 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours. Various observed parameters included the length of the plant, the number of leaves, the leaf area, the number of primary branches, the age of flowering, the number of flowers, the number of fruits, the length of the pods, and the weight of the fruit.

Results

The results showed that the concentration of gibberellins had a significant effect on the number of interest, but not on other parameters. Conversely, the length of seed immersion had a significant effect on the number of leaves in the second and third weeks after planting (MST). Interestingly, no significant interaction was found between the concentration of gibberellins and the length of seed soaking.

Discussion

The use of gibberellins as plant growth regulators can trigger physiological processes in beans. Gibberellins play a role in stimulating plant growth and development, especially in the vegetative phase. The findings that gibberellin concentrations have a significant effect on the number of interest show that the use of gibberellins needs to be done carefully to get optimal results.

Meanwhile, the duration of seed soaking has a broader impact on leaf growth. Soaking of seeds for 2 hours and 3 hours is proven to increase the number of leaves, which are important indicators in the process of photosynthesis and energy production for plant growth. This shows that seed immersion can increase the vitality and growth of seeds, which contribute to crop production.

It is essential to note that in the process of breeding and cultivation of beans, gibberellin arrangements and seed immersion techniques must be calculated precisely. Farmers and researchers need to understand that although gibberellins can help in increasing the amount of flowers, other aspects of plant growth must also be considered so that there is no decrease in results due to other factors such as leaf deficiency for photosynthesis.

Conclusion

This study provides valuable insights on bean cultivation techniques that can help increase plant productivity through regulation of gibberellin concentration and seedling of seed immersion time. By implementing this knowledge, it is expected that farmers can increase agricultural products on a sustainable manner.
