Introduction

Deli Serdang Regency, particularly in the Labu and Sub-Beringin Sub-beach area, is renowned for its organic agricultural products. However, not all farmers in these regions adopt organic cultivation techniques. This study aims to investigate the chemical properties of Entisol and Inceptisol soils in paddy fields with conventional and organic cultivation techniques in Deli Serdang Regency. The primary objective is to understand the impact of cultivation techniques on soil quality and rice production.

The use of organic and conventional cultivation techniques has been a topic of interest in recent years. Organic cultivation techniques involve the use of natural and organic fertilizers, whereas conventional techniques rely on synthetic fertilizers. Methodology

This study employed a survey method with soil sampling in two depths: 0-20 cm (upper layer) and 20-40 cm (bottom layer). Sampling was conducted systematically (zig-zag) with each sample representing 10 sample points that were combined first. Each sample weighed 1 kg of soil.

Results

The results of laboratory analysis revealed that the highest C-organic value was found at a depth of 20-40 cm in the group of fluvaQuents with organic cultivation techniques (3.87%). Conversely, the lowest C-organic value was found in the tropaquepts soil group with organic cultivation techniques (0.21%).

For the total N, the highest value was in the HydraQuquents soil group at a depth of 20-40 cm with conventional cultivation techniques and the FluvaQuents soil group at a depth of 0-20 cm with organic cultivation techniques (0.15%). The lowest total N value was found in the tropopaquents and fluvaquents at a depth of 0-20 cm with conventional cultivation techniques (0.1%).

The highest available P value was found in the tropaquepts soil group at a depth of 20-40 cm with organic cultivation techniques (10.81 ppm). Meanwhile, the lowest available P value was found in the tropopaquents soil group at a depth of 0-20 cm with organic cultivation techniques (1.2 ppm).

The highest K-DD value was found in the FluvaQuents soil group at a depth of 20-40 cm with organic cultivation techniques (1.28 me/100 g). The lowest K-DD value was found in the tropaquepts soil group at a depth of 0-20 cm with organic cultivation techniques (0.43 me/100 g).

The highest cation exchange capacity value (KTK) was found in the FluvaQuents soil group at a depth of 20-40 cm with organic cultivation techniques (32.28 me/100 g). The lowest CEC value was found in the tropaquepts soil group at a depth of 20-40 cm with organic cultivation techniques (15.22 me/100 g).

Discussion

The results of this study indicate that organic cultivation techniques have a positive impact on soil chemical quality, particularly in the content of C-organic, total N, and CEC. This suggests that the use of organic fertilizers and organic cultivation techniques in general can increase soil fertility.

However, this research needs to be followed by a deeper analysis, including other factors that affect soil quality, such as the type of plant planted, planting patterns, and environmental conditions. The results of this study can serve as a reference for farmers in Deli Serdang Regency in choosing the right cultivation techniques to increase the productivity and sustainability of their paddy fields.
