The results of OLS analysis show that wages have a negative and significant influence on employment opportunities in the three sectors, both agriculture, industry, and services. That is, an increase in wages tends to reduce employment opportunities in these sectors. On the other hand, GRDP has a positive and significant influence on employment opportunities in the three sectors. This indicates that economic growth in North Sumatra in general has a positive impact on job creation.

Shift Share Analysis

Shift Share Analysis with a proportional share method shows that the growth of employment opportunities in the industrial and service sectors in North Sumatra is faster than the growth of employment opportunities in the same sector nationally. This shows that North Sumatra is able to attract investment and create new jobs in the non-agricultural sector better than other regions in Indonesia.

Differential Shift Analysis

However, the Differential Shift analysis revealed that the transformation of labor in North Sumatra was slow. That is, the transfer of labor from the agricultural sector to the non-agricultural sector does not occur significantly. This may be caused by several factors, such as:
