Introduction

Mangrove forests play a vital role in maintaining environmental balance, especially on the coast. However, in Tapak Kuda Village, Tanjung Pura District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra, there was a transfer of conservation land for mangroves into a pambakan land. This study aims to analyze the impact of the transfer of land on the socio-economic situation of local fishermen, using survey methods and statistical analysis. The transfer of land from conservation to agricultural use has significant implications for the sustainability of ecosystems and the socio-economic life of the fishing community.

The State of the Mangrove Forest in North Sumatra

Mangrove forests have unique characteristics and functions as a habitat for various fish species and as a protector of coastal abrasion. In North Sumatra, the area of mangrove forests reached 90,093 hectares, with around 35,000 hectares in Langkat Regency. In conservation efforts, around 15,765 hectares of the land were protected as wildlife reserves. However, the transfer of land functions is a serious problem, because it can threaten the sustainability of ecosystems and the socio-economic life of the fishing community.
