Introduction

Despite the importance of this issue, there has been limited research on the impact of termites on these buildings. This study aims to fill this knowledge gap by analyzing the economic losses and mapping the distribution of termite attacks on state junior high school buildings in Pekanbaru City.

Research Methodology

To understand the extent of termite damage, researchers employed a mixed-methods approach, combining direct observations, interviews through questionnaires, and building damage analysis using a tally sheet. This comprehensive approach allowed researchers to collect detailed data on termite attack rates on junior high school buildings. The study focused on 75% of the total junior high school buildings in Pekanbaru City, providing a representative sample of the population.

Results

The findings of this study are alarming, with 48% of the studied buildings suffering moderate damage and 27% experiencing small damage. These results indicate that termite attacks can have a significant impact on the sustainability of school buildings. The study identified two types of termites: Cryptotermes Cynocephalus, a dry wood termite, and Microtermes Inspiratus, a soil termite. The presence of these termites highlights the need for targeted prevention and control measures.
