Introduction

The construction of the SUTET (Extra High Voltage Airway) infrastructure is a crucial step in electricity distribution, and its impact on the surrounding environment is a significant concern. Bulupayung Village, South Tapanuli, is one of the locations where SUTET is being constructed, making it essential to examine the condition of the land in the area. This study focuses on the physical properties of the soil and infiltration rates on various land cover around the SUTET building in Bulupayung Village, Sipirok District, South Tapanuli. The Philip method is used to analyze the data obtained.

Research Methods and Results Obtained

This study focuses on three types of land cover: horticultural fields, cocoa fields, and durian fields. The parameters measured include soil texture, water content, organic matter content, mass density, particle density, porosity, and cumulative infiltration. Infiltration measurements are carried out using a double ring infiltrometer for 180 minutes. The results showed that the highest infiltration rate was found in cocoa fields with the FP equation = 0.291984 + 0.77484.t-0,5 cm/minute. Followed by durian fields with the FP equation = 0.133504 + 0.33205.t-0,5 cm/minute. The lowest infiltration rate is found in the horticultural field with the FP equation = 0.10859 + 0.43584.t-0,5 cm/minute.

A significant difference in infiltration rate between land cover indicates the effect of vegetation on the physical properties of the soil. Cocoa fields with tight vegetation and strong root systems can increase water infiltration into the soil. This is triggered by:
