Response to the Growth and Production of Soybeans to the Application of Organic Fertilizer from Enriched Agricultural Waste

Introduction

Soybean growth is a complex process influenced by various factors, including the quality of nutrients absorbed from the ground. The use of organic fertilizers derived from agricultural waste enriched with compost-producing materials has gained attention in recent years due to its potential to improve soil fertility and reduce waste. This study aims to evaluate the growth and production response of soybeans to the application of organic fertilizer from enriched agricultural waste.

Methodology

The study was conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra, at an altitude of about 25 meters above sea level, starting from September 2009 to January 2010. A non-factorial random design (RAL) was used, involving various types of agricultural waste such as oil palm bunches, straw, palm stems, and grass mixed with composition A and B. As a comparison, compost was also used from empty palm bunches mixed with 0.5% rice bran and 10% goat manure, as well as controls without organic fertilizer.

Results

The results showed that the application of organic fertilizer had a significant impact on plant height in the 5th and 6th week after planting, as well as the number of pods filled per plant. However, there was no significant effect on the number of productive branches in the 4th, 5th, and 6th week after planting, the number of empty pods per plant, the number of seeds per plant, dry weight of seeds per plant, dry weight of 100 seeds, and the dry weight of the seeds per plot.
