Therefore, it is essential to manage coastal areas effectively to mitigate the risks associated with coastal hazards.

Research Objectives

The main objective of this research is to determine the coastal border line as an effort to protect the coastal area from storm waves and other sea power that can damage the coastal areas and infrastructure around it. This research aims to:

Determine the coastal border line in Deli Serdang and Serdang Bedagai Beach areas
Analyze the risk of erosion and flooding in the study area
Identify the factors that contribute to coastal erosion and flooding
Develop a coastal zone management plan to mitigate the risks associated with coastal hazards

Methodology

This research uses a mixed-methods approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods. The study area includes three locations in three different districts in Deli Serdang and Serdang Bedagai. The data collection methods used in this research include:

Field observations and measurements
Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis
Interviews with stakeholders and experts

The results of this research show that the recommended coastal border lines range from 197.5 meters to 275.8 meters. The analysis using the GIS shows that Percut Sei Tuan District and Perbaungan District have the highest risk of erosion, which has a direct impact on the coastal border. The field observations show that the application of coastal border lines with a distance of 200 meters will be a big challenge. Therefore, the determination of the coastal border line is at least 100 meters, as stated in Presidential Decree No. 32 of 1990.
