Introduction

Health is a vital aspect of every individual's life, being the main key to living a productive life. Therefore, maintaining health is a priority for many people. One effort to maintain health, especially from an early age, is to participate in posyandu activities. Posyandu, a government policy program, aims to improve the health of children under five. However, the success of this program is very dependent on the active participation of the community. In this context, the role of the mother is very vital in supporting the implementation of Posyandu activities.

Background

The importance of health cannot be overstated, and it is essential to maintain it from an early age. Posyandu, a government program, plays a crucial role in improving the health of children under five. However, the success of this program relies heavily on the active participation of the community, particularly mothers. This study aims to examine the participation of mothers in activities at Posyandu Mawar Merah, located in Kelurahan Gedung Johor, Medan Johor District, Medan City.

Methodology

This study employed a descriptive qualitative method, which allows researchers to explore phenomena in detail and contextual. The research method used in this study is suitable for examining the participation of mothers in posyandu activities and identifying the factors that influence that participation.

Results

The results of this study showed that community participation in posyandu consisted of several forms, such as financial contributions or materials, labor, and program implementation. This participation is inseparable from various factors, such as maternal knowledge about health, the level of expertise possessed, the economic conditions of the family, age, type of work, and the level of trust in the health program.

Discussion

Further analysis revealed that good knowledge about the importance of child health is directly related to increasing mother's participation in posyandu. Mothers who have knowledge are more likely to be active in participating in the activities and programs offered. In addition, economic factors also play an important role; Mothers who come from families with a better economic level show a higher level of participation, because they are able to provide resources both materially and in time.

Mother's age and work also have an impact on participation. Mothers who are younger and not working full time tend to be more active in posyandu activities, compared to mothers who have many job responsibilities. In addition, trust in the posyandu program is also very influential; If mothers feel this program is useful and trustworthy, they are more motivated to participate.

Conclusion

Thus, the success of the Posyandu program is very dependent on efforts to increase the knowledge, trust, and economic capabilities of the community, especially mothers. Support from the government in the form of education and accessibility to resources is very important so that the participation of mothers in posyandu activities can be increased. With higher participation, it is expected that the number of public health, especially children under five, can experience a significant increase.

Recommendations

The active involvement of the community, especially from mothers, will have a positive impact in efforts to improve the health and welfare of the community as a whole. This shows that collaboration between the government and the community is very necessary to achieve better health goals. Therefore, it is recommended that the government and the community work together to increase the knowledge, trust, and economic capabilities of mothers, especially in rural areas.

Limitations

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the study was conducted in a specific location, and the results may not be generalizable to other areas. Secondly, the study only focused on the participation of mothers in posyandu activities and did not examine other factors that may influence participation.
