Introduction

In the world of business, especially manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, the decision regarding the distribution of cash dividends is one of the most important indicators that reflects the company's financial health. The distribution of cash dividends is a crucial aspect of a company's financial strategy, as it not only affects the company's financial stability but also influences the satisfaction of its shareholders. This study aims to analyze the effect of net profit and operating cash flow on manufacturing company cash dividends during the period 2004 to 2006.

Methodology

The data used in this study were taken from the financial statements of each company published on the official website of the Indonesia Stock Exchange, namely www.idx.co.id. The sampling method used is purposive sampling, which produces 38 companies as samples. The analyzed variable consists of net income and operating cash flow as an independent variable, while cash dividends become dependent variables. To analyze data, quantitative methods are used with multiple regression, and SPSS version 16 software is used to do testing.

Results

The results showed that simultaneously, the two independent variables had a significant positive influence on cash dividends. However, when it was analyzed partially, only net profit showed positive and significant effects on cash dividends, while operating cash flows had no effect on cash dividends. This finding confirms that net profit has a more significant effect than the operating cash flow in determining the distribution of company cash dividends.
