Introduction

The Great Seeding and Protection of the Plantation Crops (BBPPTP) Medan plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of agricultural products in Indonesia. One of the key aspects of this endeavor is the analysis of potassium levels in NPK fertilizer, which is essential for plant growth and development. In this study, we employed atomic absorption spectrophotometry to determine the percentage of total K2O content in NPK fertilizer and evaluated its compliance with SNI quality standards.

Methodology

The analysis process began with weighing 0.250 grams of NPK fertilizer powder, which was then placed into a 100 ml measuring flask. Ten milliliters of HCl 25% were added, and the mixture was heated on a hot plate until the entire fertilizer was dissolved. The solution was then boiled for 15 minutes and diluted using ion-free water. After the solution cooled, the volume was determined up to 100 ml, and the solution was then romogenized. The process continued with letting the solution overnight and then filtering it using filter paper. From the filtrate, 1 ml was piped into a test tube and mixed with 9 ml of deionization water, then stirred using a vortex until homogeneous.

Results and Discussion

The results of the analysis showed that the total levels of K2O in the NPK fertilizer tested ranged from 14.39% to 16.32%. These results indicate that the potassium content in the NPK fertilizer analyzed meets the quality standards set by SNI 2803: 2010, where the minimum potassium content that must be present is 8%.
