Introduction

PT Hutama Karya (Persero) is one of the leading construction companies in Indonesia that has implemented various large projects. One of the projects that is being worked on is the construction of the Medan-Binjai Toll Road which has a length of 16,817 km with a width of 60-80 meters. The project is divided into three sections, where Section 1 covers the Tanjung Mulia to Helvetia area. At present, the ongoing work is the construction of the upper structure that involves many activities at an altitude with the use of heavy equipment and construction materials.

In the context of work safety, this research uses an observational descriptive method to identify hazards and analyze the risk of work accidents at the project site. Hazard identification is carried out by Job Safety Analysis (JSA) technique, while risk analysis is carried out through a semi-quantitative method that multiplying the consequences, exposure, and probability values to determine the level of existing risk.

In order to minimize the risk of work accidents, it is very important for project management to apply strict supervision and appropriate control. Some recommended steps include:

Periodic Inspection: Conduct regular inspections of cables, connections, and equipment used in the field to ensure everything is in good condition and safe. This is crucial in identifying potential hazards and taking corrective actions to prevent accidents.
Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Workers who do work at an altitude must be equipped with full body harness to reduce the risk of falling. The use of this protective equipment is very important to improve work safety and prevent injuries.

Chemical Hazards: These include hazards related to the use of chemicals and substances, such as exposure to toxic substances, chemical burns, and fires.
Ergonomic Hazards: These include hazards related to the physical and mental demands of work, such as musculoskeletal disorders, eye strain, and fatigue.
Gravitational Hazards: These include hazards related to the use of heights, such as falls from heights, electrocution, and exposure to extreme temperatures.

Risk Analysis

The risk analysis was carried out through a semi-quantitative method that multiplying the consequences, exposure, and probability values to determine the level of existing risk. The results of the risk analysis indicate that the highest risk identified is electromotes, flawed, and falls from a height.

The development of safe and efficient infrastructure is very dependent on the identification of hazards and appropriate risk analysis. PT Hutama Karya (Persero) needs to continue efforts in improving work safety through strict supervision, training, and application of safety procedures. Thus, the Medan-Binjai toll road project will not only be completed on time but also with a high level of safety for all workers involved.
