The Influence of Student Characteristics and Information Sources on the Tendency to Have Premarital Sexual Relations in Public High School Students in Banda Aceh in 2008
Introduction
In the era of globalization, teenagers face new challenges in terms of reproductive health. The ease of access to information and technology has led to significant changes in sexual norms, especially among adolescents. As a result, problems such as unwanted pregnancy, illegal and unsafe abortion, as well as increased cases of sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS, are increasingly worrying. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the tendency of premarital sexual relations in public high school students in Banda Aceh in 2008.
Background
Adolescents in the Province of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam tend to be involved in unsafe sexual behavior, as revealed by the results of the exploration of the youth program empowered by the Foundation Kita (2005). This study used a survey method with a cross-sectional study design, involving 208 students from the population of 7997 students. Data were analyzed by univariate, bivariate (chi-square test), and multivariate (logistic regression test) at a 95% confidence level (p <0.05).
Methodology

Results
The results of the analysis show that several factors have a significant influence on the tendency to have premarital sexual relations, namely:
Intimate friends (p = 0,0001): Close friends have a very strong influence on adolescent sexual behavior. This influence can be positive or negative, depending on the influence of his intimate friend.The role of peers (p = 0.018): The role of peers in forming sexual norms is very important. Teenagers tend to imitate the behavior of their peers, including in terms of sexual relations.The role of media (p = 0,0001): Mass media, such as television, internet, and magazines, have a big influence in forming adolescent perceptions and sexual behavior. Sexual-charged media content can trigger curiosity and desire to imitate.Knowledge (p = 0.001): The level of adolescent knowledge about reproductive health and the dangers of premarital sexual relations is very important. Lack of knowledge can cause adolescents to take unnecessary risks.
Of the four factors, intimate friends and the role of the media have the most dominant influence on the tendency to have premarital sexual relations.
Discussion
The results of this study suggest that intimate friends, the role of peers, the role of media, and knowledge are all significant factors that influence the tendency to have premarital sexual relations. These findings are consistent with previous studies that have shown that social influences, media, and knowledge are all important factors in shaping adolescent sexual behavior.
Recommendations
Based on the results of this study, several recommendations are made to overcome the problem of premarital sexual relations among adolescents:
Improving the quality of religious education: Improvement of the Religious Education Curriculum from primary to high school education can help adolescents in understanding moral and religious values related to sexual relations.Strengthening extracurricular activities: Schools need to provide positive extracurricular activities, such as sports, recitation, scientific papers, and others. This activity can help adolescents fill spare time with useful activities and prevent them from falling into negative things.Increasing knowledge and awareness: It is important to increase adolescent knowledge about reproductive health, the dangers of premarital sexual relations, and ways to prevent it. This can be done through counseling, seminars, and educational programs involving parents, teachers, and health workers.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of understanding the factors that influence the tendency to have premarital sexual relations among adolescents. The results of this study suggest that intimate friends, the role of peers, the role of media, and knowledge are all significant factors that influence adolescent sexual behavior. Based on these findings, several recommendations are made to overcome the problem of premarital sexual relations among adolescents. Education, supervision, and effective communication between parents, teachers, and adolescents are very important to prevent premarital sexual relations and protect adolescent reproductive health.
