Adam Malik Medan Hospital. The study involves patients with severe cancer pain (Numerical Rating Scale or NRS) who have received opioid and paracetamol therapy. Patients are then divided into three groups: Gabapentin group, Amitriptyline group, and placebo groups. The level of pain, pain detect scores, and side effects are assessed on days 1, 3rd, and 7th.

Results

The results showed that at first, all patients experience severe pain. On day 1, severe pain is reduced at 1 (1.8%) patients in the Gabapentin group and 3 (10.8%) patients in the Amitriptyline group. On the 3rd day, no patients experience severe pain in all groups. Medium pain was found in 15 (26.3%) patients in the Gabapentin group, 15 (26.3%) patients in the Amitriptyline group, and 14 (24.6%) patients in the control group. On the 7th day, pain was being discovered in 12 (21.1%) patients in the Gabapentin group, 12 (21.2%) patients in the Amitriptyline group, and 15 (26.3%) patients in the control group. The average pain detect score is 29.4 ± 5.3, with a significant difference on the 7th day (P-value 0.004). There is no significant difference in side effects between the three groups.

Conclusion

The conclusion of this study shows that there is no significant difference in decreasing pain based on NRS between Gabapentin, Amitriptyline, and control groups. However, this study shows a significant decrease in neuropathic pain on the 7th day with additional adjuvan therapy, without significant differences in side effects between the three groups.
