Violence against children, especially sexual violence, is a serious problem that continues to increase in Indonesia, especially in the Province of North Sumatra. The Indonesian Pusaka Foundation has been working tirelessly to provide assistance to children who have been victims of sexual violence. However, the socioeconomic influence of the family on these children is a crucial factor that needs to be addressed. This article aims to discuss the socioeconomic influence of the family on victims of sexual violence in children assisted by the Indonesian Pusaka Foundation.

Background of the Problem

Unstable economic conditions, such as poverty and low income, often result in inability to meet the basic needs of the family. This situation not only has an impact on physical well-being, but also creates an environment that is prone to violence, including sexual violence. In many cases, perpetrators of violence are usually people who are known by children and their families, so children often do not realize the dangers that threaten them. The socioeconomic condition of the family is a critical factor that contributes to the incidence of sexual violence in children.

The Impact of Sexual Violence on Children

Victims of sexual violence often experience significant psychological impacts. These children can lose confidence, become withdrawing from the social environment, even developing more serious behavior and emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression. This acts of violence not only damage the mentality and physical of children, but can also damage their relationship with family and community. The impact of sexual violence on children is a long-term and devastating effect that can have a lasting impact on their lives.

Research Methodology

This study uses a descriptive method with a quantitative approach to test hypotheses related to socioeconomic influences on victims of sexual violence. The research sample consisted of 13 victims registered at the Indonesian Pusaka Foundation in 2013. Data was collected through questionnaires, interviews, and observations. Data analysis was carried out using the moment product correlation analysis. The research methodology used in this study provides a comprehensive understanding of the socioeconomic influence of the family on victims of sexual violence.

Research Result

The results of the analysis show that there is a significant positive relationship between the socio-economic conditions of the family and the incidence of sexual violence in children. Moment product correlation coefficient (RXY) shows the number 0.591, which means there is a strong correlation between these two variables. With a significance level of 5% (95%), the value of R table is 0.553. Because 0.591 is greater than 0.553, the hypothesis that "there is no socioeconomic influence on victims of sexual violence in children" can be rejected. This shows that families with lower socio-economic conditions tend to have children who are more at risk of becoming victims of sexual violence.

Socio-Economic Contribution

Furthermore, the socioeconomic contribution to the incidence of sexual violence in children handled by the Indonesian Pusaka Foundation was recorded at 34.9%. This figure illustrates that almost one third of the factors causing sexual violence in children can be linked to the economic conditions of the family. This shows the need for better intervention and support for families with low socio-economic conditions to prevent sexual violence.

Conclusion

Based on these findings, it is very important for the government, community organizations, and related institutions to increase awareness and provide support for families who are less able. Programs that aim to improve the socioeconomic condition of the family can contribute to reducing cases of sexual violence against children. In addition, increasing education and training for parents is also very important in creating a safe and supportive environment for children. In this way, we can work together to protect children from violence and give them a better future.

Recommendations

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

The government should provide financial assistance to families with low socio-economic conditions to improve their living standards.
Community organizations should provide education and training for parents on how to create a safe and supportive environment for children.
Related institutions should increase awareness and provide support for families who are less able.
Programs that aim to improve the socioeconomic condition of the family should be implemented to reduce cases of sexual violence against children.

Limitations of the Study

This study has several limitations that need to be addressed. The sample size of the study is small, which may not be representative of the larger population. Additionally, the study only focused on the socioeconomic influence of the family on victims of sexual violence, and did not explore other factors that may contribute to the incidence of sexual violence.
