This study aims to identify the types of translation techniques used in the Indonesian version of the official Australian tourism website and to determine which techniques are the most dominant used in the translation. By using a descriptive qualitative approach, this research provides an interesting insight into how translation techniques can affect the user's experience in accessing tourism information.

This study used a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze the translation techniques used in the Indonesian version of the official Australian tourism website. The data consisted of 315 text segments in Indonesian taken from the official website, using the theory of Molina and Albir as an analysis framework. The results showed that of the 18 identified translation techniques, only 13 techniques were used in this translation.

Results

The results of the analysis showed that the top five techniques most often used are:

Calque: 105 Data (31.8%)
Amplification: 73 Data (22.1%)
Literal Translation: 42 data (12.7%)
Transposition: 28 data (8.4%)
Reduction: 25 data (7.5%)

The dominant use of the Calque technique shows that translation tends to take sentence structure from the source language and adapt it to Indonesian. This explains why the translation feels more literal and follows the form of the target language.

Furthermore, the amplification technique also stands out, which may reflect efforts to clarify or add additional information to help readers understand better context. This is important considering that tourism information often requires further explanation to reach readers with diverse cultural backgrounds.

The literal translation technique shows that many phrases and sentences are translated directly, which can help maintain the original meaning but sometimes can produce a translation that sounds stiff. On the other hand, the transposition technique used provides flexibility in choosing words or structures that are more suitable in Indonesian, so as to produce more natural sentences.
