Introduction

The success of a regional water company in achieving profitability is crucial for the sustainability of the business and the ability to meet the needs of clean water for the community. In this study, we aim to reveal the factors that influence the profit of PDAM Tirtanadi, a regional water supply company in North Sumatra Province. The study used secondary data in the form of monthly financial statements and monthly operational activity reports from January 2008 to December 2010. With a total of 36 observations, data was collected using the census method, where the entire population was sampled.

Methodology

The study used a quantitative approach, analyzing the data using statistical methods. The data was collected from the monthly financial statements and monthly operational activity reports of PDAM Tirtanadi. The study used a multiple regression model to analyze the relationship between the independent variables (water leakage, additional customer addition, arrears collecting, and network addition) and the dependent variable (profit).

The simultaneous test results (F-test) showed that the four factors studied have no significant effects at the same time on PDAM Tirtanadi profits. However, when a partial analysis (t-test) was conducted, some interesting findings emerged:

Water leakage and customer addition have a negative effect on PDAM Tirtanadi profit, but the impact is not significant. Although water leaks and the addition of customers can reduce profits, the impact is not too large.
Concern billing has a positive effect on profit, but the impact is also not significant. This shows that although arrears billing can increase profits, the effect is not so great.
Network addition has a negative effect on PDAM Tirtanadi and significant profit. This finding shows that the addition of networks, although it is important to increase service coverage, turns out to have a significant impact on expenditure and harm the company's profitability.
